Ann Hamilton
is best known for her complex use of objects, textiles, video, photography, and sound to create the material framework for her spatial installations and performances. Her latest project with Gemini presents a melding of prints and sculptures that originated in her work with silk organza, felt, and raw hide. What has resulted is a diverse body of work that includes 25 lithographs and etchings; handmade coats of industrial felt; large unique collages composed of ‘tiles’ of lithographs mounted to fabric; and a writing desk containing ear trumpets and a select grouping of prints. Collectively, these pieces reference Hamilton’s fundamental focus on “the way we experience ourselves, not as images but as bodies.”

A newly commissioned work will be included in Human Nature: Artists Respond to a Changing Planet, a collaborative exhibition project that opens at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego on August 17th.
